When to choose a spider platform?

Spider platforms are vehicles capable of reaching great heights in a small space, and thanks to their lightness, they can also be used in conditions unsuitable for accommodating heavier equipment. In detail, they consist of a tracked mobile carriage that mounts a lifting system with telescopic or articulated arms capable of supporting the basket that will hold the operator. The operator himself can easily drive the vehicle directly from the basket, thanks to an onboard control system.

In the working position, the spider lift anchors itself to the ground using stabilisers that resemble the shape of the spider from which it gets its name. Spider platforms are, therefore, vehicles that offer several advantages, such as the possibility of reaching inaccessible places, contexts with narrow access, uneven or steep terrain, and particular types of flooring that cannot be negotiated with other vehicles. They are particularly suitable for indoor and outdoor pruning and construction work.

Below, we list some of the technical characteristics of these lifting devices.

Structure:

Articulated arm > extremely compact structure and easy passage, even for narrow places. The articulated arm system guarantees passage even in the presence of obstacles at a height.
Telescopic arm > enables large distances to be reached horizontally.

Power supply: spider aerial platforms can be powered by a hybrid system, diesel and electric or a thermal system: petrol or diesel.

Rotation: possibility of 360° rotation thanks to fifth wheel anchorage of the lift arm.

Maximum height: can reach 10 to 50 metres in height and more depending on the model and size of the device.

Dimensions: variable depending on the model. The smallest instrument reaches a maximum weight of 15 quintals. With the stabilisers closed, the vehicle is quite compact; for stabilisation, however, it requires an environment with more space.

Disadvantages: As with other types of self-propelled platforms, movement to the construction site requires transport by a third party such as a suitable truck.
